Indy Star: Local Music Venues Remain Open While Bars Are Closed

Don’t let the headline mislead you. The simple fact is that most live music venues are still closed. Several Indianapolis music venues; including The Mousetrap, Slippery Noodle, Black Circle Brewery and HI-FI have made the quick pivot to outdoor spaces. When a recent mandated closure of Marion County bars and nightclubs was issued, IIVA members moved quickly to ask for a distinct clarification. This distinction removed live music venues from the “bar & nightclub” category and included under “culture and entertainment venues.” This is the first time that live music venues in Indiana have been able to shed the “bar” stigma. At this time, live music venues are able to remain open at 25% capacity with a maximum restricted capacity of 250 guests according to the Marion County Board of Health.

While these venue have the ability to remain open, the economics of hosting events under current attendance restrictions is not economically feasible.
