#RedAlertRESTART Set For September 1
Since March 2020, the live events industry has taken an outstanding blow, as most have had to close their doors and wait out the impacts of COVID-19. Because of this, #WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, and #ExtendPUA are no strangers to trending hashtags, along with #SaveOurStages.
Organizers of #WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, and #ExtendPUA are representations of some of the largest calls to action for Congress to make some moves and pass the RESTART Act (S.3814) as soon as possible. The passing of RESTART Act would offer some financial assistance to millions in the Live Events Industry. With the industry closed since mid-March, and a bleak outlook of 2021 reopening date for many - if they are lucky - the time for Congress to act is now.
A second push within these efforts is for ExtendPUA.org, to continue to offer Pandemic Unemployment Assistance to all of the millions that were furloughed or lost their jobs due to the closure of so many venues and associated industries. Stage crews, lighting crews, sound techs, and food & beverage are just a few of the sectors within that have been greatly affected due to COVID-19.
Though the initial hope was having these calls to action on August 27th, #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART have chosen September 1, 2020 for their new day of action. This came about after speaking with several US cities, and wanting to gain the most impact in one day.
How will venues participate? By lightning up in red! The goal is to bring awareness to those in support and those affected in the Live Events Industry. The hope is to put some heat on Congress; asking them to act now, as this industry is on “Red Alert” for its survival during this pandemic. Buildings and residents are encouraged to shine these red lights from 9PM to 12AM, across North America.
Pull out the red bulbs, the red gels, or get creative and mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
